Askern Saw Mill Demolition
Project Overview
IHE Demolition successfully completed the demolition and clearance of the former Askern Saw Mill, a large-scale industrial site comprising multiple buildings and extensive areas of hardstanding.
The project involved the controlled demolition of the site’s buildings, together with the removal and disposal of significant quantities of asbestos. In addition to asbestos identified within several of the existing structures, a substantial quantity of asbestos-containing material had been stockpiled on site. This was carefully managed, removed and disposed of in accordance with all relevant regulations and environmental requirements.
A key element of the project was the removal of a large reinforced concrete pad spanning much of the site. The concrete was demolished, processed and crushed on site, with suitable recycled material being reused within the project to reduce the requirement for imported aggregate. Remaining materials were processed and sent for appropriate recycling and disposal.
The project was delivered with a strong focus on safety, environmental responsibility and efficient material management, ensuring the site was cleared effectively while maximising opportunities for recycling and reuse.

York Hospital - Secure Care Baby Unit Refurbishment
Project Overview
IHE Demolition was appointed to undertake the internal strip-out works as part of the refurbishment of the Secure Care Baby Unit (SCBU) at York Hospital.
The works involved the careful removal of a range of internal elements, including ceilings, floor finishes, internal walls and other associated fixtures and fittings, preparing the areas for the next stage of the refurbishment.
While the individual strip-out activities were relatively straightforward, the project presented a significant challenge due to the extremely sensitive hospital environment in which the works were being undertaken. Maintaining a safe, clean and controlled working environment was of paramount importance, with strict precautions implemented to minimise the potential impact on patients, staff and hospital operations.
Careful Coordination & Phased Working
Close and continuous communication with both the principal contractor and hospital client was essential throughout the project. All works were carefully coordinated around the hospital's ongoing operations, with activities planned and carried out in controlled phases to minimise disruption.
Certain works were scheduled outside of normal operating hours where required, allowing more intrusive activities to be completed with minimal impact on the hospital environment. Access, working areas, noise, dust and waste movements were all carefully managed to ensure the surrounding areas remained safe and operational.

Leeds Trinity Shopping Centre - Screed Removal
Project Overview
IHE Demolition carried out refurbishment and strip-out works across a number of retail units within Leeds Trinity Shopping Centre, working simultaneously for two separate principal contractors.
The majority of the works involved the removal of existing floor screed to prepare the units for their subsequent refurbishment. This was supplemented by a range of smaller internal demolition and refurbishment activities as required across the individual stores.
Out-of-Hours Working & Site Management
Due to the busy retail environment, all works were undertaken out of hours during the night, allowing the refurbishment programme to progress without disrupting the shopping centre's normal operations.
A key requirement of the project was ensuring that each work area was left in a safe, clean and secure condition at the end of every shift. This was particularly important where areas being worked on during the night were required to be occupied or accessed by other contractors, staff or members of the public the following day.
Working across multiple stores for two principal contractors simultaneously also required effective planning, communication and coordination to ensure each programme was delivered efficiently and to the required timescales.
